Chiang Mai Gay Guide

Gay Karaoke and Gay Discos in Chiang Mai

The real gay scene in Chiang Mai is found away from the commercial tourist venues familiar to many visitors. The local Thai scene does not get started until after midnight and by far the largest venue is Mandalay, a massive disco and live music venue although not officially a gay venue it has become so popular with gays it is often know unofficially as Mandagay!

For the best fun in Chiang Mai head to the Gay Karaoke bars of which there are many. These venues are usually open until dawn, have a large staff of young male waiters, most of whom are available to go home with you, and regular drinks prices. The better bars are packed at weekends and are often great fun as everyone joins in with the signing and high spirits. Some can also get quite raunchy with some cabaret too. For most Thai people they represent a much better alternative to in your face go-go bars, with their highly inflated drink prices. Some Karaoke bars also have food available and VIP rooms where you can go and enjoy with your friends and some of the waiters in private.

As for anywhere in Thailand the late night scene is underground. These places change all the time and can be dangerous if you are alone so we are only listing a couple of them here. For the latest news on the best nightspots in town ask at the other bars, or ask some of the locals and get them to take you.

Probably the best known and oldest late night Karaoke club in Chiang Mai, very dark, very loud, very Thai, and unbeatable fun! This is the favourite late night hang out for the Bon Tong boys.

There are no 100% foreign style Gay Discos in Chiang Mai, although the recently opened See Man Pub, a Thai gay club with live music, shows and Coyote boys is changing that. Unlike some places, foreigners seem welcome here, though you should be aware it's a Thai style place.

There are also several mixed places which are popular with Gays, these places are generally open later than the bars so don't get busy until late. For the visiting foreigner the choice is limited: the foreigner friendly venues are tourist orientated and less gay; whilst those venues more popular with local gays don't welcome foreigners.
