We operate this English Language website to provide useful information for the benefit of gay and LGBT visitors who live in or visit Chiang Mai.  As gay people ourselves we fully understand the privacy issues surrounding matters of sexuality and collect the minimum of data possible to interact with you, provide a good experience for website visitors and respond to any questions.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

We provide various contact forms on our website to allow you to send us information or ask questions.  These ask for your name (you can use a nickname if you wish), email address and sometimes telephone number.  Any other information is provided at your discretion and choice.  Information sent by our contact forms is transmitted to us by email and stored on our secure email server.  Emails may be retained for up to one year for management purposes and to reply to your queries.  Contact forms are provided with a consent box confirming that you have read and accept this policy before submitting data to us.  We do not disclose any personal information so transmitted to third parties except where this is specifically stated (for example one form allows you to contact the Chiang Mai Gay Men’s Group and a copy of the data submitted will be emailed to them See the privacy policy for meetup.com here).

Newsletter

If you sign up to receive our newsletter by email we collect your name (you can use a nickname if you wish) and email address.  When subscribing you confirm your consent to us sending newsletters to you that we think may be of interest.  We will do this no more than six times per year.  when you sign up to our mailing list we send an email to you asking to confirm your email address and that you consent to us sending newsletters to you before adding you to our mail list.  Once confirmed we will send you a further email confirming you have been added to our mailing list.  This email will include links that allow you to unsubscribe automatically at any time.  All newsletters we send you will also include an unsubscribe link.  Your name and email address is stored in a secure database on our web server.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Who we share your data with

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Emails sent via contact forms are typically retained on our servers for one year  Archived emails may be retained for up to three years in specific cases where business practice requires this (e.g. correspondence regarding commercial advertising or related matters)

Names and email addresses submitted to our newsletter are retained indefinitely unless or until deleted by the subscriber.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Log files are retained on the server for 30 days after which they are automatically deleted.
